Information for visitors

Fjord Base aims to be the most efficient and rational supply base in Norway. This requires a targeted focus on health, safety and environment (HSE) work. To achieve this, we depend on all workers within the base area to fulfil these targets. Please contribute to a safe work environment by following all current guidelines that applies to the base, and by paying attention to the work and activities that are being performed. We wish you a safe and satisfying stay at Fjord Base.

Any suggestions for improvements are appreciated, please submit your comments here: contact Saga Fjordbase AS

Safety instructions

Admittance

The entrance gate at Fjord base is open Monday to Friday between 08.00-16.00. The gate is closed on Saturday and Sunday, and at night all days of the week. Companies and personnel who need admittance to the base will be given admittance cards by contacting Fjord Base AS. Any unauthorised persons will not be admitted into the base area.

Maximum speed

The maximum speed limit at Fjord base is 30 km/h. The speed limit is 20 km/h in some restricted areas.

Personal protective equipment (PPE)

The following are minimum requirements for work wear at the base:

→ Safety helmet

→ Safety boots

→ High visibility clothing (visible and reflective colour, or use a high visibility vest)

Being visible is probably the most important protection at Fjord Base. An example of non-sufficient protection is wearing a blue overall among blue vehicles and containers.

Other mandatory protective equipment will depend on the operation you are performing and which area of the base you are in. As an example, safety boots are mandatory in loading and unloading areas. Work wear such as overalls and gloves will also depend on the work you are performing and the area you are in. The use of equipment such as ear protection, safety goggles and respiration masks must be discussed with the person in charge at your work place. All new protective equipment must be CE approved.

Keeping order

A necessary contribution to the safety work is keeping a high standard of order and a well-organised work space. All workers are encouraged to keep their work spaces tidy and organised.

Handling machines

At Fjord Base, there is always a lot of traffic. Forklift trucks, terminal tractors, lorries, trailers, passenger cars and pedestrians are all using the area. It is important that all vehicles are in proper working condition and in accordance with current laws and regulations.

Environmental protection and waste disposal

Fjord Base has an aim of conducting business without any negative impact on our environment. Waste must not be dumped in random containers, an agreement with the company operating the relevant container must be made. Individual companies operating at the base must handle their own waste. All users of the base area are therefore encouraged to ensure an approved waste disposal plan. If illegal dumping of waste is observed at the base, please report this immediately to Fjord Base AS.

Walkways and quay facilities

Use walkways where available.

Access to quay areas is limited during operations. Outsiders must report to Port Security, who will clarify access with the person responsible for the ongoing operation.

Industrial safety

Fjord Base is an industrial safety area, with an established industrial safety group.

This means that personnel are organised in response action groups and are – in the case of an incident – ready to perform fire safety, first aid, security tasks, technical services, maintaining order and prevent/minimise environmental emissions. If an accident should occur, the industrial safety group has necessary equipment available (hoses, jet fire hose nozzle, oil containment booms, first aid kit, rescue baskets, etc.).

Safety representative

The safety representative is the first contact person in matters of industrial safety. He/she is also the employees’ representative in safety and environmental issues.

He/she must ensure that the company’s activities are performed in a way that protect the workers’ safety, health and wellbeing. Each company operating at the base has an individual responsibility to establish industrial safety systems according to government requirements.
