Maren Avsnes Klakegg is Logistics Manager at Vår Energi.
The operator company Vår Energi has established a strong presence at Fjord Base, and there is now great optimism surrounding their activities—especially with the Gjøa installation, which is located just west of Florø. Several exciting projects are underway, promising increased activity and engagement at the base in the time ahead.
Maren Avsnes Klakegg is the Logistics Manager at Vår Energi in Norway, leading a skilled team of 20 people, seven of whom are based in Florø. Her responsibilities include materials management, supply bases, marine operations, air transport, and emergency preparedness. Maren previously served as site manager for Neptune Energy in Florø, and after last year’s acquisition, the team in Florø has become part of a larger and more comprehensive professional environment.
“We have just completed our first year with Vår Energi—and what a journey it has been! Working in logistics is intense and dynamic. We provide services to our fields and rigs around the clock, which requires close collaboration, quick decisions, and often creative solutions to succeed. At Vår Energi, our motto is ‘More, faster.’ That means we move quickly from investment decision to production. The pace is high—and it’s incredibly exciting to be a part of it,” Maren says enthusiastically.
Vår Energi has now launched what is known as the Gjøa Subsea Projects. This includes the Ofelia, Gjøa North, and Cerisa discoveries—three licenses with different owners. To maximize synergies, Vår Energi will lead the entire project. The discoveries are located close to the Gjøa platform, and the plan is to tie them into the existing infrastructure. Modern subsea technology makes it possible and profitable to develop smaller fields—as long as they can be connected to established facilities.
The goal is to start production from all three fields during autumn 2028. Altogether, it is estimated that these discoveries contain up to 110 million barrels of oil equivalent*. This will create high levels of activity for the entire Fjord Base environment in Florø in the coming years.
Vår Energi currently has a comprehensive “Base Service” agreement with Saga Fjordbase. They have been a partner since the very beginning of Gjøa. To manage the activity in Florø, Vår Energi makes active use of this agreement to ensure quality and service in logistics supply to and from Gjøa—during operations, drilling, and project phases. The collaboration is close and works very well.
“We are a proud supplier to Vår Energi and the Gjøa field. What’s happening now around Gjøa and ongoing field development in the area is very exciting, and it will help secure jobs connected to Fjord Base for many years to come,” says Erlend Toftesund, EVP Logistics & Operations at Fjord Base Group.
*One barrel of oil equivalent is a unit used to convert different types of energy, such as gas and oil, to the same measurement—making it easier to compare them.
