The Fjord Base Group is currently working on facilitating the world’s first ammonia bunkering facility at Fjord Base. The project, called the Ammonia Fuel Bunkering Network, is a collaboration with Azane Fuel Solutions, HyEx Safety, GOT, Hub for Ocean, Fjord Base, and SINTEF Energy.

The project has received DSB approval for construction, and efforts are now focused on obtaining the necessary permits from Kinn Municipality before a final investment decision can be made. If everything goes according to plan, the ammonia bunkering facility could be operational by 2026–27.

The Hydrogen Centre of Vocational Excellence (H2CoVE) aims to strengthen Europe’s workforce for the growing hydrogen sector. This collaborative project, involving several European regions including Vestland County, focuses on developing vocational skills tailored to industry needs. With the hydrogen economy rapidly expanding and requiring significant investments in production, storage, and applications, a skilled workforce is essential. H2CoVE brings together the strengths of partner regions to build a sustainable value chain.

The project offers hydrogen technology courses, develops customized education programs, and facilitates knowledge sharing across Europe. Its goals include engaging 800 business stakeholders, upskilling or reskilling 1,000 employees, involving 150 teachers, supporting 140 students in challenge-based learning, and producing 12 student projects addressing real industry challenges.

Fjord Base Group in Florø, Norway’s largest supply base, plays a key role in H2CoVE. With expertise in port development, logistics, and supply chain management, the company contributes to developing hydrogen infrastructure. It is involved in projects like HyFuel (green hydrogen production) and the Ammonia Fuel Bunkering Network, working closely with educational institutions and industry partners to build essential hydrogen sector competencies.

The Fjord Base Group is systematically working on various initiatives to create a greener and more sustainable supply base.

In 2016, we launched the Lean and Green project, involving many of the companies at the base. We thoroughly examined all possibilities to become more environmentally friendly in our workflows, operations, and collaboration. One of the outcomes of the project is Saga Connect, a digital collaboration platform for all stakeholders at the base. Saga Connect is continuously being developed and improved, and it can be utilized in other ports as effectively as at Fjord Base.

Other measures we have implemented include the establishment of shore power at our quays and crane power outlets. We also have several ongoing projects, such as installing charging stations for heavy transport and launching various circular economy initiatives.
