For 40 years, Fjord Base Group has been a driving force for both business and community development. This anniversary does not only mark the story of a base that has grown alongside the region, but also a story of community, volunteering, and engagement. Looking back, it is clear that support for culture, sport, and places to meet has been just as important to development as industrial activity. Throughout our history, we have stood shoulder to shoulder with those who create well-being, identity, and opportunities in our local community.

Fjord Base Group has always been more than a business actor. For us, corporate social responsibility is about staying close to the people, talents, and initiatives that shape everyday life in Florø and the surrounding area. Sport, culture, and volunteering are foundations that contribute to recruitment, a desire to settle, and sustainable development. That is why we support both established communities and emerging initiatives that strengthen the local community over time.

When community builds strength

One of the most visible examples can be found on the football pitch. Florø Fotball is a powerful force for children and young people, with hundreds of players and a strong coaching environment that creates both results and joy. At this year’s Norway Cup, the girls’ J17 team once again showed what teamwork can lead to. After two wins and one loss, the team progressed to the A playoffs, but the most important things happened between matches: the sense of community, the experiences, and the memories that strengthen motivation to stay involved in sport over time. This sense of belonging is one of the finest things sport can offer a local community, and we are proud to be part of the engagement around the club.

The athletics community in Florø also shows what focused effort and strong frameworks can lead to. Erlend Grytten Sunnarvik’s podium finish at the Junior National Championships is a strong example of what happens when young talents are able to develop in an environment that supports and encourages them. Such results create not only pride, but also motivation for children and teenagers standing on the starting line and dreaming of achieving the same.

Cultural heritage, volunteering, and great places to meet

Culture plays a role in the local community that is just as important as sport. For forty years, Kinnaspelet has brought together volunteers, professionals, and audiences on the saga island of Kinn. What started as a local project has grown into one of the region’s most important cultural events, with more than 100,000 audience members in total since 1985. Several thousand volunteer hours are contributed every year to create the magical performance that audiences travel from near and far—right out at the edge of the open sea—to experience.

The cultural heritage at Svanøy Hovedgård is also part of this picture. The Svanøy Hus Foundation both preserves history and creates a vibrant meeting place that gives the island a unique position in the region. Concerts and cultural events are hosted here, and among others, Kari Bremnes and Bjørn Eidsvåg—two of the country’s most beloved artists—have performed on the stage in the cultural barn. The idyllic setting also means many couples choose to get married here, and the foundation is working purposefully to develop the site as a year-round destination for both conferences and cultural events.

Volunteering is also the very backbone of the watersports festival Våt Moro, which creates buzzing activity and gives people the opportunity to meet, learn, and experience something together. People of all ages gather for play and challenges, with the sea as their playground. The festival has broad appeal and functions both as a daytime activity for families with children and young people, and as a social meeting place for teenagers and adults in the evenings—where AfterSea creates a sense of community among those home for the holidays, potential returnees, and those who live here year-round.

When business comes together to lift each other up

For 25 years, Temposeminaret has been a leading inspiration seminar for business and industry in Sogn og Fjordane. The seminar is a meeting place where business leaders, specialists, and engaged stakeholders come together to find inspiration and build relationships. The programme combines high-profile speakers with learning, insight, and networking. The strong, locally rooted business community returns year after year and helps make Temposeminaret an arena that lifts both the region and the participants. This is exactly the kind of meeting place our support is meant to strengthen—an arena where the future is discussed, networks are formed, and innovative ideas can take root.

Another important meeting place is Flora U40. The network brings together young adults who want to build relationships, share experiences, and develop both socially and professionally. U40 has created an inclusive environment that makes it easier to establish yourself in the city, find a sense of belonging, and see opportunities. By supporting U40, Fjord Base Group contributes to well-being and recruitment, and to ensuring that young people find room to grow—and choose to stay in the local community.

An engagement that points forward

As we mark forty years, this is about more than looking back. It is about understanding how culture, sport, and volunteering are part of the growth we have helped create—and the role this plays in what lies ahead. That is why we will continue to be a clear supporter of the communities that make Florø and the surrounding area a good place to live, settle, and work. For us, it has always been important to give something back, and it will remain so for the next forty years as well.
