A strong community is built together. Over the years, Fjord Base Group has supported a wide range of projects and initiatives that enhance local pride and well-being. We have placed particular emphasis on grassroots sports, culture, and volunteer engagement—important pillars of a vibrant local community. For us, it’s about giving something back to the community we’re a part of.

“We know that great value also brings great responsibility. That’s why community engagement has been a natural part of our business,” says Bjørn Erik Kringstad, Head of Sales, Marketing, and Communication at Fjord Base Group. “It’s not just about financial support, but about building relationships, contributing to development, and strengthening the sense of togetherness.”

Kinnaspelet — an adventure for 40 years

Our longest-standing partnership is with Kinnaspelet — the spectacular outdoor play that gathers people of all ages on the island of Kinn every year. This event, now celebrating its 40th anniversary, is an impressive volunteer effort, logging nearly 10,000 hours annually, with many young people in key roles.

“Organizing a play on an island where everything must be transported by boat takes both local goodwill and financial support,” says Grethe Stavø from the organizing committee.

“Fjord Base has been a long-term supporter, and that’s been absolutely crucial for us to keep going all these years.”

Nearly 100,000 people have seen Kinnaspelet since it began. What started as a bold project has become an important cultural tradition in the region—a platform for inclusion and togetherness.

Standing together for children and youth

Fjord Base is also a proud supporter of Florø Fotball, which offers sports and activities to more than 600 children and young people in the municipality. Together with other local companies, we help create safe and positive spaces for growth, achievement, and community.

We also support FT&IF Athletics, the Svanøy House Foundation, local marching bands, and various cultural events that foster identity and a sense of belonging—absolutely vital for well-being and recruitment in the region.

“Fjord Base is a major employer in the municipality, and we rely on access to skilled labor. That means we need to help ensure people thrive and want to stay—or move here,” says Bjørn Erik at Fjord Base Group.

A driving force for business and ripple effects

While we support the community, Fjord Base is also one of the biggest value creators in the region. An independent analysis by Ernst & Young (EY) in 2024 highlights the base’s significance:

  • 68 companies and over 650 employees are connected to Fjord Base
  • 1.69 billion NOK in annual value creation
  • 16% of all private sector value creation in Kinn municipality
  • 4.1 billion NOK in total turnover at the base
  • 656.5 million NOK annually returned to society through taxes, fees, and ripple effects

“Fjord Base is a business cluster of high value. Here, expertise, innovation, and a sharing economy create new solutions and spin-offs. It’s hard to quantify everything, but the value to society is significant,” says Arne Hesjedal Hovdenakk, Senior Advisor at EY.

Green transition — new opportunities

The analysis also shows that new green initiatives are critical for future growth. Offshore wind is especially highlighted as an area with great potential—both for new jobs and as a replacement for declining oil and gas activity in the future.

“If the right measures are taken, the analysis shows that Fjord Base Group could facilitate between 700 and 1,300 jobs by 2035, linked to new green industry,” says Sebastian Nyvoll, Senior Advisor at EY.

Built on collaboration — driven by optimism for the future

Fjord Base was established through collaboration between the public and private sectors, and this partnership has been the backbone of our development. Cooperation has been a consistent theme throughout our history, and it will continue to be so.

We aim to be an active and committed supporter—both for business and for the local community. We believe in this region, and we believe in the future.
