Absolutely
crucial
for
the
local
community

In our work on new green initiatives, we needed to understand the importance and scope of the ripple effects from base activity—both what the companies at Fjord Base contribute today and the concrete opportunities for the future. We therefore engaged Ernst & Young (EY) to produce an independent ripple-effects analysis. The analysis shows that the base is absolutely crucial for the local community.

Important to realize green projects

The analysis also showed that Fjord Base must deliver green projects to maintain or strengthen value creation. Many new jobs can come from transition and innovation, with offshore wind being the project that can replace existing activity and create the most new jobs. The analysis indicates there could be between 700 and 1,300 jobs by 2035.

Proud of what has been achieved

Vegard Sjursen is a Director at EY and one of those who worked on the analysis. “The base, together with all the companies, functions as a cornerstone enterprise. You should be incredibly proud of what has been built up here over time, and mindful of the opportunities that lie ahead,” he says enthusiastically. “The base has a complete industrial cluster. Going forward, collaboration across companies, the public sector, and the municipality will be essential. For things to happen, everyone needs to pull in the same direction,” adds Sebastian, Senior Advisor at EY.

Some things are impossible to quantify

The initiatives at Fjord Base will bring multiple stakeholders together in one place, triggering synergy effects for Kinn that are hard to quantify. “A capability base and a cluster within new value chains are being built here—value that is almost impossible to put a number on. The companies learn from and challenge each other, share costs, and create new spin-offs. The sharing economy has enormous value,” concludes Arne, Senior Advisor at EY.
